The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a globally recognized English proficiency test trusted by thousands of employers, professional bodies, governments, and educational institutions worldwide. Its scores are recognized as reliable proof of English language proficiency by universities, colleges, workplaces, and immigration authorities across the globe. Respected and accepted by more than 10,000 organizations in over 140 countries, it remains one of the most widely recognized and dependable English assessment systems for academic admission, professional registration, and migration purposes.

Cledor Education is an accredited IELTS test service provider in Ghana, operating in partnership with the British Council. The organization, through its Learner Clinic (LC) program, offers paper-based tests at its locations across the country, providing candidates with convenient and flexible scheduling options. IELTS on Computer can also be arranged for candidates who prefer to take the test on computer. All test staff and examiners are fully trained and certified according to IELTS standards, ensuring a secure, reliable, and high-quality testing experience for all candidates.

IELTS Academic or General Training

IELTS offers two test options: Academic and General Training. The IELTS Academic test measures your ability to use English in an academic environment and helps determine whether you are prepared for undergraduate or postgraduate study, or for work in a professional setting. The General Training test assesses how well you communicate in everyday work, social, and practical situations and the skills required when living or working in a native English-speaking country.

Before registering, you will need to choose the test that best matches your goals. If you are unsure which one to take, it is advisable to check with the institution, employer, or immigration authority you are applying to so you select the option that meets their requirements. Where you are taking an IELTS test for a UK destination, you may need IELTS for UKVI.

IELTS for UKVI

Unlike the standard IELTS tests which are often required for non-UK destinations such as Australia, Canada, USA, etc.…, IELTS for UKVI are for test takers seeking to study, work in or migrate to the UK. There are various IELTS for UKVI tests for different purposes:

  • IELTS for UKVI (Academic) for test takers seeking to study at degree level or seeking professional registration in the UK.
  • IELTS for UKVI (General Training) for test takers seeking to migrate to the UK, or study/train below degree level in the UK.
  • IELTS Life Skills – A1 (Speaking and Listening) for UK visas and immigration for spouses or family of settled persons.
  • IELTS Life Skills – B1 (Speaking and Listening) for persons seeking indefinite leave to remain in the UK or citizenship.

Test Format

The IELTS Academic or General Training test assesses your English-language proficiency across four key skills: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The total test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes. The Listening, Reading and Writing parts of all IELTS tests are taken consecutively on the same day, with no breaks in between them. The Speaking test, however, may be scheduled on the same day or up to a week before or after the other parts of the test. You will be advised of the time to have your Speaking interview when you apply.

Candidates can choose to take IELTS either on computer or on paper for both the General Training and Academic test. The Speaking component in the paper-based format will be taken face-to-face with an examiner. Where the computer-delivered test format is chosen, the Speaking component may be taken face-to-face or via video call. The test format, question types, time allocated to each test part, and content remain exactly the same for both IELTS on computer and IELTS on paper tests. The only difference is in the test day experience and the delivery method.
